About Kathryn

I am a table games dealer at a Native American gambling casino in SouthWestCentral Louisiana. (I have been doing this since 1999; before that, I was an Accountant for some fifteen years, twelve of those years with one company, with a degree in Accounting from LSU (Class of 1980), and then a Lady of Leisure for three years.) My schedule at the casino is from Fridays through Tuesdays from 3:00 am to 11:00 am, Central Time. I am married (since 1984; my husband also works with me at the casino, same shift, same days off), and have two kids (one of each, with our son in the Navy (stationed in Groton, Connecticut, and married in December 2010) and a daughter working in Opelousas (living with her boyfriend outside of our town) and five cats. I am also a reasonably devout Roman Catholic, with a great devotion to the Saints, and I try to be sincere about my religion. My weblog is of interest to a very limited set of people, but I do value all of my Six or Seven Loyal Readers. If you wish to contact me, please send me an E-mail at kathrynlafleur023@gmail.com, and I may or may not respond to you.

The Wasp that Brainwashed the Caterpillar: Evolution’s Most Unbelievable Solutions to Life’s Biggest Problems by Matt Simon (Ebook)

The Wasp that Brainwashed the Caterpillar: Evolution's Most Unbelievable Solutions to Life's Biggest Problems by Matt Simon

The author of this book is a science writer for Wired Magazine, where he specializes in weird stuff. In this collection of anecdotes, he leads his readers through land and sea, and finds animals that have adapted to do really weird things in order to mate, feed their progeny, or feed themselves. I very much enjoyed this book, though it does make one a trifle afraid to go outside and play. Continue reading
