Today is the Optional Memorial of Saint Cyril of Alexandria, Bishop and Doctor (died 444). Today is also Helen Keller Day. It is Lottery Day, according to Shirley Jackson’s 1948 short story “The Lottery”, and it was on today’s date in 1957 when Hurricane Audrey made landfall in Eastern Texas and Western Louisiana. And today is National PTSD Awareness Day.

Today is the Optional Memorial of Saint John and Saint Paul, Martyrs (died c. 362). In the secular world we note that today is the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, and the anniversary of the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision of 2015 that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marriage under the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution. And today is the birthday of my Internet friend Lori in Wisconsin (1954).
