Today is the first full day of Eid ul-Fitr, the Islamic holiday marking the end of the month of Ramadan. We have no Saints to honor on this date, but I personally honor Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (died 1955). Today is also National Sibling Day. And today is the birthday of my very good friend Julie in Louisiana (1964).

The author of this book (died 1996) was born in Japan in 1923, and was baptized as a Catholic when he was eleven or twelve. He writes about Jesus as a novelist, and as one who wishes to convey what about Jesus most appeals to the Far East (where, while there are Catholics, they are a distinct minority). This book is a short one, and a very good read.

I must confess that I was disappointed with this, the twenty-first book in this mystery series featuring mustachioed Jim Qwilleran and his Siamese cats Koko and Yum Yum. I expect, perhaps wrongly, to have all the loose ends wrapped up, and this did not happen in this book.
